Road repair works will take place in Edgecumbe SH2 Bridge Street (Whakatane district) and SH30 in Ātiamuri (Rotorua district) from Sunday 5 December.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Bay of Plenty Transport System Manager Roger Brady says these works will rebuild and strengthen the roads.
“To ensure safety and resilience these works are best completed during the warm, dry summer months.
“We encourage motorists to drive with care through the sites and obey temporary speed limits to ensure the safety of road workers and other motorists. We want to see everyone get home safely. Motorists should plan for minor delays and allow additional time for their journeys.”
Weather permitting, the works are expected to be completed by 23 December.
Repair works will take place overnight between Puriri Crescent and College Road from Sunday to Thursday between 7pm and 5am.
Stop/Go traffic management with a 30km/h temporary speed limit will be in place overnight and during the day.
During the works there will be restricted movements onto Tawa Street, Rata Avenue and Puriri Crescent. Sign-posted detours will be in place. Delays are expected to be around five minutes.
Repair works will take place between Ohakuri Road and Nicholson Road from Monday to Friday between 6:30am and 6.30pm.
Stop/Go traffic management with a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place during the day and a 50km/h limit overnight. Delays are expected to be around five minutes.
Further maintenance work is also planned in and around the following areas for the week from Sunday 5 December, weather dependent:
Motorists are advised to expect delays of up to 15 minutes the day after chipsealing works.
It is important motorists adhere to the relevant temporary speed limits during these works to ensure their safety and that of other road users and road workers and avoid damage to their vehicles.
For at least 24 hours after a site has been sealed, and before it is swept, it continues to operate under a reduced temporary speed limit of 50km/h while vehicles travel over the seal and help “bed in” the chip and to reduce the risk of chip damaging windscreens. The site is then swept, excess chip is removed, and the temporary speed limit remains in place until line marking has been reinstated (within 48 hours of the site being sealed, weather dependent).
Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience.
