Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s highway maintenance team is making some temporary but needed repairs on Timaru’s Evans Street this week, starting today. Some noisier milling work will go through till Thursday.
SH1 Evans Street between Waimataitai and Hobbs Streets is the area people will see crews working.
Temporary traffic management and speed limits will be in place.
“This is a mix of chipseal waterproofing seals and asphalt mill and fill repairs to keep the underlying pavement free of water getting under the surface during the winter period ahead,” says Waka Kotahi Maintenance Contract Manager John Keenan.
“The chipseal repairs started today and should be completed by Tuesday this week.
“The mill and fill asphalt repairs will start tonight, Monday, and go through to Thursday night. There will be some noise associated with this activity.”
Mr Keenan thanked everyone for their patience around crews while this urgent repair work is completed ahead of the winter weather.
A new permanent surfacing layer is planned for the coming 2023-24 summer surfacing season on Evans Street.
