The NZ Transport Agency is advising that a number of roads are still closed including SH25 around the north eastern Coromandel after severe flooding and heavy rain overnight.
Waikato System Manager Karen Boyt says the Coromandel Peninsula is expecting more heavy rain this afternoon and a hightide of 4pm may mean the area will experience further flooding.
“Our clean up crews have been on site today to assess and start the clean up job, but until the weather front passes we are uncertain how long it will take to completely reopen SH25 safely to motorists.”
“There have also been two slips around the township of Kuaotunu, the weather forecast looks to be improving over the coming days so we expect by tomorrow morning we will be able to swing into full clean up mode across SH25.
“We ask all motorists to please avoid the area or delay your journey if possible and please remember to slow down, keep your lights on when its raining and allow extra time,” says Ms Boyt.
All updates will be provided on our social media and we ask motorists to check these pages, or our journey planner before leaving.
Please check the Thames-Coromandel District Councils website for information on local roads.
The NZ Transport Agency thanks road users for their understanding and patience.
