The NZ Transport Agency is advising that a number of roads, including SH25 around the Coromandel are closed this morning after severe flooding overnight.
Waikato System Manager Karen Boyt says the Coromandel Peninsula, particularly the eastern side had over 200mm of rain fall last night and the worst hit communities of Whitianga, Hikuai and Kuaotuna are currently isolated.
“Our clean up crews will be on site and clearing the road as soon as they can, however with more bad weather on the way, we are uncertain at this point in time when SH25 will be completely re-open safely to motorists.”
“We ask all motorists to please avoid the area or delay your journey if possible and please remember to slow down, keep your lights on and allow extra time,” says Ms Boyt.
The following roads are currently closed:
An update will be provided on our social media after 1pm today however, we ask motorists to check these pages, or our journey planner before leaving as the situation may change throughout the day.
