Work starts this weekend on replacing the road surface on State highway 1 from just north of Yarmouth Street to the Essex Street/Cromer Street Corner in Balclutha.
The existing surface has reached the end of its economic life.
The contractor Downer will move on to the site tomorrow, Saturday 1 February with work scheduled for completion by Wednesday 5 February, weather permitting. The work will be carried out between 9am and 10pm.
Delays for road users should be minimal, with two lanes of traffic operating throughout this job, although speed restrictions and traffic control will be in place.
The project is costing an estimated $167,000. When completed, it will provide a smoother road surface that is also safer with its greater skid resistance.
