The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) says weather permitting it should wrap up the final stage of resurfacing work on SH 6A before Easter.
This resurfacing work starting on Monday is necessary to protect the road pavement particularly during to the harsh winter months.
NZTA Area Manager John Jarvis says this is really the last window of opportunity to complete this work before the cooler weather sets in. Doing the job now also means there is no risk of potential disruptions when Queenstown is busy during the Rugby World Cup later this year.
“The new surface being laid on a 1.5 km stretch of SH 6A between Goldfield Heights and Morries Road will be slightly coarser than what is currently being used. Applying a smoother top coat is an option, although a decision on whether this is done or not will be made early next year.”
Mr Jarvis said the work on Monday will cause some short delays for road users, so they should allow an extra few minutes for their trip, particularly during peak travel times. The NZTA regrets any inconvenience to road users and appreciates their patience while this essential work is carried out.
