The NZ Transport Agency advises drivers to plan for a weekend closure of the Greville Road interchange on Auckland’s Northern Motorway (State Highway 1), starting next Friday (7 November).
The closure starts from 9pm on the Friday and will continue until 5am Monday (9 November).
The weekend restrictions are as follows:
There will be sign-posted detour routes. The Transport Agency says local roads are also expected to be busy, and people using the detours should allow extra time to get to their destinations.
The closure, which is the second of two as part of the Transport Agency’s Upper Harbour Highway to Greville Road Northbound 3 Laning project – was postponed earlier this month because of the weather and re-scheduled for November.
“We appreciate the support from drivers and local businesses we received during the first closure, and we are counting on that again as we finish our necessary work at the interchange, and are hoping the weather plays its part,” says the Transport Agency’s Highway Manager, Brett Gliddon. “We ask people to be patient driving through such a large construction site, and to take care for their safety and the safety of our contractors.”
The Upper Harbour Highway to Greville Road Northbound 3 Laning project will make improvements to both the motorway and local roads.
The project is constructing an additional northbound lane on SH1 between the Upper Harbour Highway and Greville Road interchanges, and switching the Greville Road/Tawa Drive/Albany Expressway roundabout into a fully signalised intersection. It is also widening the southbound lane on the Albany Expressway from 1 to 2 lanes. There will also be a new shared walking and cycling path along both Greville Road and the Albany Expressway.
November’s closure is dependent on the weather.
