Work starts on Monday 10 March 2014 to replace worn sections of SH 1 on Cumberland Street in Dunedin, from Police Street through to the Andersons Bay Road traffic lights.
The old asphalt on this section of highway will be dug out as part of this $250,000 job and the road surface levelled, prior to a new coating of asphalt being applied.
Work will take place at night between 6pm and 6am to minimise disruptions to road users and take five nights to complete, weather permitting.
On Monday and Tuesday of next week, work will focus on the Cumberland Street between Police and Wolseley Streets.
On Wednesday night, the contractor begins working on the Wolseley Street to the Andersons Bay Road traffic lights section of the job.
Thursday and Friday will see the whole section of highway from Police Street to the Andersons Bay Road traffic lights resurfaced.
One lane of the highway will be closed to traffic throughout this work with speed restrictions operating on the remaining traffic lanes.
Roadside messaging boards will let road users know about the work prior to happening. Once completed, this section of highway will be smoother and offer vehicles a better braking surface.
