Remutaka Hill closed Sunday night, 14 August, for planned roadworks

Road users in Wellington and Wairarapa should consider alternative routes and be prepared for delays with State Highway 2 over the Remutaka Hill to be closed this Sunday night, 14 August.

The overnight closure, from 9 pm to 4 am, is part of a series of planned closures between August 2022 and July 2023. This is to allow essential maintenance and slip prevention work to be carried out.

These closures significantly reduce the number of daytime disruptions for road users. Road crews can also complete a large amount of work safely over a small number of closures because multiple crews can work across the hill at the same time without disrupting traffic.

• Access will also be available for emergency services throughout the closure
• Light vehicles will be escorted at intervals across the hill behind a pilot vehicle. Bookings are essential and should be made at customer@wta.nzta.govt.nz
