Queenstown highway sealing – overnight and evening works on Frankton Road starts next week

|

Resealing on a section of Frankton Road, State Highway 6A in Queenstown, will start next week as part of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s summer works programme.

“This will improve the overall surface of the road, important for the network and the safety of our community”, says Mark Stewart, Maintenance Contract Manager, Waka Kotahi, Central Otago.

The asphalting works will be carried out by Aspiring Highways, on behalf of Waka Kotahi.

The resurfacing programme will run from Wednesday, 27 October, until Friday, 12 November, between the hours of 8pm at night and 6am the following morning. These works are weather dependent so the dates below may alter accordingly:

  • Wednesday, 27 October (evening) to Friday, 29 October (morning).
  • Sunday, 31 October (evening) to Friday, 5 November (morning).
  • Sunday, 7 November (evening) to Friday, 12 November (morning).

“We know this work will have the biggest impact on residents living on and near Frankton Road, particularly given noisy machinery will be used.  However, doing this at night allows us to minimise traffic delays overall.  We thank you for your patience.

“Road users should expect minor delays as traffic will be managed by Stop/Go traffic control with traffic reduced to one lane as well as temporary speed restrictions past the works,” Mr Stewart adds.

This work has to be done over the warmer months for the sealing to be effective and long-lasting.

Resealing works on the rest of the Queenstown network are being confirmed and details will follow.

More work coming end of November Frankton Road

In addition, Waka Kotahi is starting work on the NZ Upgrade Programme which was announced by the New Zealand Government last year.  This will include investigation works on Frankton Road/State Highway 6A at the end of November when more night works are likely.

The Queenstown Package provides $115 million for a range of projects on SH6 and SH6A, between Ladies Mile, Kawarau Falls Bridge and Queenstown’s town centre.

The works are being delivered for Waka Kotahi via the Kā Huanui a Tāhuna alliance in partnership with Queenstown Lakes District Council.
