Excavators and motorscrapers will soon be breaking further new ground on the Hamilton section of the Waikato Expressway Road of National Significance, and with the new earthworks season about to begin, project staff will hold two public information evenings in September to fully inform local communities of upcoming work.

Each event will feature a new project flyover video recorded at the end of August, full project maps and drawings of new bridges. Engineers and other staff will be on hand to answer questions.
The Hamilton section is a ‘greenfields’ project that skirts the east of Hamilton City. It does not follow any existing roads but will join the Ngāruawāhia section in the north with the Tamahere/Cambridge section in the south.
Eleven bridges are under construction, with five more due to commence by Christmas 2017.
The project plans to move more than 1.5 million cubic metres of sand and soil between 2 October 2017 and 30 April 2018. Last summer, earthworks teams began excavating and filling to build expressway embankments along roughly half the 22km length of the project. This summer, they will begin work on the remaining 11km of expressway:
The Hamilton section of the Waikato Expressway will reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, reduce travel times and boost economic growth when it opens in 2020.
