The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that a section State Highway 25, just north of Thames, will close for short periods from today to enable the removal of hazardous trees overhanging the highway near Tararu Stream Bridge.
The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that a section State Highway 25, just north of Thames, will close for short periods from today to enable the removal of hazardous trees overhanging the highway near Tararu Stream Bridge.
NZTA will be closing the highway near Tararu Stream Bridge for 5-10 minute stretches to protect traffic while the trees are being removed and some travel delays are expected.
Weather permitting, the work will take approximately one week to complete and will be carried out between the hours of 8.30am and 4.30pm. Work will cease earlier on Friday afternoons.
NZTA Regional Director, Harry Wilson, says the area where the trees are located is a Shag nesting colony. The Department of Conservation (DOC) have granted consent for NZTA to carry out the work in the interests of public safety.
Mr Wilson says, “DOC has advised us that this is the best possible time of the year to carry out the work and we have agreed mitigation measures to minimise disturbance to the colony.”
