Bad weather has seen a cancellation of tonight’s (29 September) closure planned for State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill.
The route had been planned to be closed to allow emergency maintenance work to be carried out. However, forecast weather conditions mean it is not safe for contractors to work tonight.
However, road crews will be on standby as we do expect more slips on the hill overnight. If more slips occur, the hill will be closed until the road is cleared and safe to use.
Road users should drive to the conditions and take extra care. Waka Kotahi encourages drivers to check the route is open before they travel as a weather-related closure is a possibility.
