A series of night works linked to the NZ Transport Agency’s upgrade of State Highways 1 and 14 are planned to start in Whangarei next week and will impact on drivers using the two highways.
The night works start on Monday (10 March) and will continue until Wednesday (26 March). Contractors will be working from 7pm until 7am the following morning when traffic is lighter.
“These works will mean restricted access, which will delay people using the highways at night,” says the Transport Agency’s Highway Manager, Tommy Parker. “We will do everything to minimise those delays but people should allow more time to get where they are going safely, and be patient as they drive through the work sites.”
“There will be some noise and vibration and our contractors will aim to get that work done earlier in the evening to avoid disrupting our neighbours” says Mr Parker.
The Transport Agency is working with Whangarei District Council to improve the state highway through Whangarei. The improvements will help manage growing traffic numbers, improve safety and make travel easier for locals and visitors travelling in and around Whangarei. The improvements also include improved safety for people who walk and cycle.
