Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is encouraging motorists to plan ahead for delays of between 5-10 minutes on State Highway 1 in Lichfield while a cattle underpass is installed early next month.

UPDATE 4 March 2021: As part of the Waka Kotahi spring/summer road maintenance programme, State Highway 1 through Lichfield area has been identified for road resurfacing work. To minimise disruption to road users, the decision has been made for contractors to complete this work at the same time as the cattle underpass construction and detours (see Traffic Bulletin below). A temporary speed limit of 30km/h will be in place during the works for any traffic moving through the site. From Sunday 7 March, resurfacing work at the intersection of State Highway 1, Vospers Road and Ngatira Road will be completed. Following completion of these works the team will move to two further sites in the area, located near the intersection of State Highway 1 and Wiltsdown Road. |
Works will commence on Tuesday 2 March, with a shoulder closure in place. From Tuesday 9 March to Saturday 13 March, light northbound vehicles will be detoured via Wiltsdown Road, Old Taupo Road, Waotu Road, Arapuni Road, Princes Street and Main Street. This detour takes people from the SH1 intersection with Wiltsdown Road outside Fonterra Lichfield through to Putaruru.
All southbound traffic and northbound heavy vehicles will continue to use SH1 as usual, with a 30km/h temporary speed limit and Stop/Go traffic management in place.
Once the underpass installation is complete and the detour removed, contractors will remain on site to complete works, with road shoulder closures and a 50km/h temporary speed limit in place to assist ensure the safety of road work staff.
