Peka Peka to Otaki open days

|

The NZ Transport Agency is seeking public feedback as it launches a new round of public consultation on environmental protection measures for the Peka Peka to Otaki section of the Kapiti Expressway.

NZTA Wellington state highways manager Rod James says consultation will provide the public with the opportunity to share their views on the proposed mitigation to be included in the project's RMA applications. The consultation period will run from 8am Saturday 16 June to 5pm Friday 13 July and will focus on environmental protection measures for the route.

"Public feedback has been hugely valuable in guiding this project as it 's taken shape, and we're keen to hear the public's views on the measures we are proposing."

Public consultation will include two open days, setting out detailed information on our proposals. The open days will be held at:

  • 10am-4pm, Saturday 16 June at the Otaki Memorial Hall, Main Street, Otaki
  • 2-8pm, Wednesday 20 June at the Te Horo Community Hall, School Road, Te Horo.

People will be able to give their feedback either by filling out comments forms at the venues, or online at www.nzta.govt.nz/pp2oproject.

The Peka Peka to Ōtaki section of the Kapiti Expressway is part of the Wellington Northern Corridor road of national significance, which, once completed will significantly reduce journey times and improve safety through this important section of State Highway 1. The project also includes improved interchanges, bridges, connections and new local roads which will make it quicker and safer for locals to get on and off the expressway from their communities.

Meanwhile, on the MacKays to Peka Peka section of the Kapiti Expressway immediately south, the NZTA has lodged its regulatory consents application for this project with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) in April.
