The new Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway is now fully open to all traffic.
Road crews completed work needed to allow the southbound and northbound lanes to open in the early hours of Friday morning.
It means the new section of State Highway 1 on the Kāpiti Coast is available for peak holiday traffic in the lead-up to Christmas.
As part of the opening of the new expressway, the northbound passing lane at Forest Lakes, north of Ōtaki, has been closed for safety reasons.
