The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists that there will be delays on State Highway 1 (Kahikatea Drive, Hamilton) this evening between 7 and 8 pm, while a pedestrian overbridge is transported from Gallagher Drive through to Pembroke Street.
NZTA Highway Network Operations Manager, Karen Boyt, says during the relocation the road will remain open to single lane traffic but there will be ‘stop/go’ traffic controls operating as needed.
The pedestrian overbridge will be transported along Gallagher Drive, onto State Highway 1 (Kahikatea Drive), left into Ohaupo Road and right into Pembroke Street by Waikato Hospital.
An optional route off SH1 is available via Alison Street, Hibiscus Avenue and Lake Crescent once the transportation vehicles have moved the bridge past the intersection of Alison Street and Kahikatea Drive. Entry to Waikato Hospital will be available off Selwyn Street.
“Motorists will need to allow for delays while this operation is underway this evening and we would like to thank them for their patience around this. We’d also like to remind people to be aware of the traffic controls and speed restrictions in place and take care when travelling through this area during this period.”
