UPDATE (4 June 2020): These works will now take place on the nights of Sunday 7 and Monday 8 June, NOT Thursday 4 and Friday 5 June as was communicated in the previous update. There is a chance this work may be further delayed if the weather on Sunday and Monday is unsuitable.
UPDATE (2 June 2020): The overnight works on Sala Street at the intersection with State Highway 30/Te Ngae Road are now scheduled for the nights of Thursday 4 and Friday 5 June, NOT Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 June, as was communicated in the below Traffic Bulletin sent on Friday last week. All other details remain the same.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises work on Sala Street at the intersection with State Highway 30/Te Ngae Road will take place overnight on Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 June.
Contractors will be on site between 7pm and 3am both nights to install a new stormwater pipe at the intersection outside Carters.
Stop/Go traffic management and a 30km/h temporary speed limit will be in place at the intersection. Minor delays are expected for traffic on Sala Street and SH30.
The road will operate as normal during the day.
Acting Portfolio Delivery Manager Jo Wilton says the new stormwater pipe is being installed as part of the Eastern Corridor Stage One project currently under construction on SH30 between Sala Street and Iles Road.
“This project includes the upgrade of the SH30/Sala Street intersection and the construction of a new left-turn slip lane from Sala Street towards the city centre.
“As the existing road needs to be widened to make room for the slip lane, a new longer stormwater pipe needs to be installed to fit.
“This work is being completed at night to minimise the disruption to motorists using the road."
Work on the Eastern Corridor Stage One project is progressing after a temporary site closure under COVID-19 Alert Level 4.
The current focus is on completing the new access to the Whakarewarewa Rugby Club, the undergrounding of services from Sala Street to Iles Road, and constructing the slip lane at Sala Street.
