Overnight stop/go on the way at new SH3/Princess Street roundabout

|

Five nights of overnight stop/go traffic management will be in place on State Highway 3 (SH3) in Taranaki at the Princess Street intersection as the new roundabout nears completion.

The roundabout and pedestrian underpass are part of the Te Ara Tūtohu: Waitara to Bell Block safety improvements project, with work at the intersection due to be finished later this month.

Stop/go traffic management will be in place from Sunday night (14 July), at the intersection, between the hours of 10pm and 5am each night.

Please expect delays of up to 30 minutes during these overnight works. Crews will be monitoring delay times to ensure delays and disruptions are kept to a minimum.

The stop/go traffic management will shift during the week, depending on the work being carried out.

During the first 2 nights of stop/go traffic management, crews will install median barrier south of the roundabout. At this stage, the stop/go will start at the southern entrance to the Waitara River bridge and end at the northern entry to the roundabout.

During the final 3 nights, crews will install median barrier north of the roundabout and the stop/go will still start at the southern entrance to the Waitara River bridge but end further north, just before the intersection of SH3 and Bayly Street.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) Regional Manager of Infrastructure Delivery Rob Partridge says NZTA has been in communication with a number of users, including the freight industry, and is doing what it can to minimise delays.

“We realise these potential delays will be frustrating and we want to thank road users for their patience, ahead of the roundabout being opened later in the month. Please take care when driving through the site and adhere to the temporary traffic management in place,” says Mr Partridge.
