Overnight detours in place for SH1 Whangarei

|

The NZ Transport Agency advises that it will be undertaking major road works at night on State Highway 1, Whangarei, between Fourth Avenue and Wilson Avenue in late-May.

The work is to construct a new and improved road surface. It will also mean temporary changes to the road layout for north and southbound traffic during construction.

"To enable the reconstruction to progress efficiently, southbound traffic on the state highway will be diverted through Central Ave and Maunu Road between the hours of 6:30pm and 7:00am," says Brett Gliddon, Highways Manager for Auckland and Northland.  "We appreciate drivers' patience while we get the road surface improvements completed as quickly as possible."

The work is scheduled to begin on the night of Sunday, 24 May and continue until 27 May, weather permitting.

The diversion will be temporarily removed on 26 May to allow for the FIFA mayoral welcome.

The road reconstruction follows the relocation of services on the eastern side of the state highway. Once completed, the construction team will start work on the western side of the state highway.

These road works are part of the Whangarei Urban Improvements project, which aims to help manage growing traffic numbers, improve safety and make travel easier for locals, visitors - including cyclists and pedestrians - and freight, in and around the city.
