The NZ Transport Agency says it will review at midday tomorrow, Saturday 22 September, the overnight closure it has had in place since earlier this week at the site of a large slip above State highway six 16km south of Makarora.
The highway at the slip site will remain closed from 7pm tonight (Friday 21 September) until 7am tomorrow morning.
NZ Transport Agency, Central Otago Area Manager John Jarvis says a further extension of the night time closures beyond tomorrow will depend on what progress the contractor can make over the next 24 hours to stabilise the slip.
“The bottom line for the NZ Transport Agency is that we are not prepared to put motorists at risk and will not re-open the road at night until we are totally confident the slip is safely stabilised. The weather in the area is good at the moment so that should help efforts to make that happen.”
John Jarvis says while the road is open to single lane traffic during the day, clearance work means motorists should be prepared for delays. While our contractor is striving to keep these delays to a minimum motorists should factor the possibility of delays into their travel times.
