NZTA wishes to advise repair and strengthening work to the Orams Road Bridge over the Southern Motorway [SH1] at Manurewa have been brought forward four days, and will start tonight [Wednesday, 14 October].
The repairs are expected to take six weeks. The majority of the work will be carried out at night when traffic volumes are lower, Sunday to Thursday. During this time the Southern Motorway will be reduced to 1 lane through the work area. Queues are expected, especially between 12 – 2am tonight.
While the bridge is being repaired, it will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists, but stay closed to vehicles. The closure is in place to ensure the safety of bridge and motorway users. Detours are in place, and traffic volumes are being monitored to minimise any impact on the community and road users.
The bridge was extensively damaged and weakened last month, when it was hit by the boom of a digger being towed on the Southern Motorway.
NZTA thanks you for your patience and will do its best to minimise any inconvenience while the repairs are underway. For any queries or more information about this work, please call 09 5200 200.
