SH51 at Waitangi Bridge will be closed for one hour next Monday morning (17 April) between 10 and 11am for a further inspection.
Bridge engineers have installed electronic monitoring equipment to remotely inspect the bridge, which remains under a temporary speed restriction following Cyclone Gabrielle.
The bridge remains structurally safe and the inspections to date have been to ensure this remains the case.
The bridge will be closed between 10am and 11am on Monday 17 April.
Waka Kotahi has posted this information on our social media pages and our contractor has the information displayed on digital screens either side of the bridge.
Our bridge engineers have requested the one hour closure to ensure the monitoring equipment is working accurately. If this is the case, future inspections will be carried out remotely without the need for further inspection-related closures.
This is a vital connection point for people travelling between Napier and Hastings and Waka Kotahi acknowledges people’s patience and understanding during this closure.
