NZTA welcomes launch of new Safer Journeys Action Plan

The NZ Transport Agency is today welcoming the launch of the Government’s Safer Journeys Action Plan 2013-15.

NZTA Chief Executive Geoff Dangerfield said the NZTA had been closely involved in the development of the plan and that the agency would work closely with Police, the Ministry of Transport, ACC and other road safety partners to implement the plan and reduce deaths and injuries on New Zealand roads.

“It builds on the progress made by the first Safer Journeys Action Plan (2011-2012) and provides an opportunity to focus firmly on a few significant programmes that will move us closer towards realising the Safer Journeys vision of a safe road system increasingly free of death and serious injury.

“Death and serious injury should not be an inevitable part of road use. With this action plan, we can keep up momentum up in improving road safety across our whole road system, refusing to accept that any road death is inevitable.”

The NZTA works closely with its partners to strengthen all parts of the road system - roads and roadsides, speeds, road users, and vehicles.
