The NZ Transport Agency is supporting Rodney District Council’s water conservation campaign by immediately implementing a water use audit on the projects to improve State Highway 1 at Warkworth.
“It is inevitable that we do have to use water on any project like this but we are determined to keep that use to a minimum” says the NZTA State Highways Manager for Auckland and Northland, Tommy Parker.
“We’re taking Rodney’s drought situation seriously and our audit will identify more ways in which we can further minimise the use of water to help the community during this dry spell”.
Water conservation initiatives followed by the construction team include ensuring any water equipment used is in good working condition, repairing water leaks promptly and discouraging the cleaning of work vehicles while on-site.
Upgrades currently underway to Rodney’s water services will help to better manage stormwater run-off, while the installation of new water and sewerage mains will improve water quality.
Landscaping and planting at some parts of the project will also be deferred until the drought situation improves.
