A fully laden logging truck has crashed on State Highway 1 south of Warkworth this afternoon, and the NZ Transport Agency says there will be long delays until the highway is cleared.
The truck rolled near the intersection of SH1 and Toovey Road at about 2.30pm
The NZTA's acting State Highways Manager for Auckland and Northland, Steve Mutton, says SH1 remains open but is restricted to one lane and a stop-go system is operating to regulate the flow of traffic.
"Although the highway remains open delays will be significant. Initial reports from the crash scene say it could take between seven and nine hours to have the highway completely cleared of logs," Mr Mutton says.
People can choose SH16 as an alternative route. Those going north can access SH16 from the Silverdale interchange on SH1 north of Auckland, and those driving south can reach it from Warkworth.
"We do ask everyone to drive with care and be patient until the highway is cleared. We are working as quickly and as safely as we can to remove the logs and have the highway fully re-opened," Mr Mutton says.
