Three separates incidents - two crashes on Auckland's Southern Motorway (State Highway 1) and a gas leak in Mt Roskill - are causing delays for drivers using both the Southern Motorway and the Southwestern Motorway (SH20) and the NZ Transport Agency says there will be delays during this afternoon's peak.
The gas leak has caused significant delays around the western end of Sandringham Road where it joins the Southwestern Motorway. The delays are affecting northbound traffic leaving the motorway, and vehicles are queuing back to Dominion Road.
Delays are also significant on the Southern Motorway. One of the crashes has closed both the north and south bound fast lanes after a car collided with a concrete median barrier near Otahuhu. The second crash closed one of the northbound lanes near Penrose when a car and truck collided.
The NZTA is asking people to be patient and drive with care - journeys home tonight will be slow. The NZTA will be using its electronic variable message signs to keep people informed, and it asks them to observe all speed limits to ensure they reach their destination safely.
