The NZ Transport Agency is reminding motorists travelling through State Highway 1 in either direction between Hamilton north and Horotiu this Saturday to be aware of the Te Rapa section open day event taking place that day between 8.00 am and 3.00 pm.
NZTA State Highway Network Operations Manager, Karen Boyt, says no significant delays are expected but traffic volumes may increase slightly during the event.
"If you are travelling through this area at the time, it would be a good idea to allow for a small amount of extra time for your journey and take extra care when driving through this section of SH1. Public parking for the event will be signposted off the Horotiu Roundabouts."
"For those not attending the open day, alternative routes to SH1 are also available via SH39 or SH1B."
The new Te Rapa section of the Waikato Expressway will open to traffic on Monday morning, December 3, and the Agency is also encouraging motorists to start thinking now about the new road layouts, to avoid last-minute decision making while driving.
There will be clear signage in place to assist motorists to understand the layout changes while they adjust to using the new addition to the Expressway, however Ms Boyt says that taking some time out now to prepare for the upcoming changes will help people plan their journey more effectively and safely before they leave home.
