West Coast motorists are advised State Highway 7 at the Ahaura River Bridge will be closed at night, from 10pm to 5am, during the next two weeks for bridge repairs.
The 85-year-old single-lane timber bridge, located about 40km inland from Greymouth, will be closed each night, from Sunday 7 September through to 5am on Friday 12 September and from Sunday 14 September to 5am Friday 19 September for urgent repairs on the bridge deck.
The work is expected to cost about $50,000.
The NZ Transport Agency’s Regional Performance Manager Pete Connors says there will be a detour from Ikamatua, along Atarau Road and Taylorville-Blackball Road to Stillwater, which will add about 5kms to each journey.
“The NZ Transport Agency apologies for any inconvenience caused by the closure.”
