Night-time travellers, get ready for road closures on SH1 between Pūhoi and Silverdale

|

Works as part of the Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth project will require overnight closures on State Highway 1 (SH1) between Silverdale and north of the Johnstones Hill tunnels (northbound) and Pūhoi and Grand Drive (southbound) over five weeks.

Northbound, a detour will be in place via Hibiscus Coast Highway, from 9pm to 5am on the following dates:

  • Sunday 12 to Thursday 16 February
  • Sunday 19 to Thursday 23 February
  • Sunday 26 February to Thursday 2 March
  • Sunday 5 to Thursday 9 March

A stop/go operation will be in place to help with traffic management.

Southbound, a detour will be in place via Hibiscus Coast Highway, from 9pm to 5am on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 15 February and Thursday 16 February
  • Sunday 19 to Thursday 23 February
  • Sunday 26 February to Thursday 2 March
  • Sunday 5 to Thursday 9 March
  • Sunday 12 to Thursday 16 March

Over dimension vehicles will be assisted through the area via our contractors traffic management team. Heavy vehicles are advised to take State Highway 16.

Electric Vehicle (EV) users should consider the extra range required for alternative routes.

These works are coordinated alongside closures at Dome Valley to ensure as much work as possible can be done under these closures, to minimise disruption.

The works will involve laying the final road surface, chipseal, barrier installation, line marking, signage and more.

Road layout changes may be required in the south to complete the final tie-in works around the Johnstone Hill Tunnels. Waka Kotahi will provide an update on this work when more information is available.

Completion of these works brings us closer to opening the new motorway which will provide a safer, more resilient and reliable road with more consistent travel times. Based on current progress Waka Kotahi anticipates that NX2 and their subcontractor Fletcher/Acciona Joint Venture will be in a position to open the road in the second quarter of 2023.

While all efforts have been made  to limit disruption to traffic flows, we encourage you to plan your journey over this time and check the Waka Kotahi Journey Planner before heading out.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists in advance for their patience and understanding during this time.
