With night closures planned, residents and regular users of State Highway 2, Upper Hutt, will have to use detours next week.
Asphalt resurfacing will be carried out next Wednesday and Thursday nights near Totara Park.
The resurfacing will help improve skid resistance at the northern and southern approaches to the Totara Park Road intersection. The improved road surface will make the intersection safer for drivers.
While the work is underway, State Highway 2 have northbound and southbound lane closures, and drivers will have to detour via Fergusson Drive.
The works have been deliberately timed to be carried out at night when there is less traffic on the highway and to minimise disruption for drivers. Full closures also allow the work to be completed more quickly. However, the detour will increase travel times, and drivers should plan for this.
Waka Kotahi appreciates roadworks, and the delays they cause can be frustrating for drivers. However, State Highway 2 is an important transport link thousands of people use daily. Regular maintenance like this is critical for keeping the highway safe for road users.
This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if wet weather occurs.
