The Hurunui River Bridge in North Canterbury, will be closed to traffic for up to 20 minutes at night for several days starting from early next week.
The NZ Transport Agency says the closures are necessary to complete important maintenance and upgrades on the bridge.
This work that’s expected to take up to 12 days to complete, starts on 25 May 2015 and is being done at night to minimise delays for road users.
Closure times are from Monday to Friday and start on the hour and half hour between 7.00 pm and 6.00 am. The Transport Agency advises motorists using this route at these times to allow for the delays in their travel plans.
Roadside message boards are being set up in the area to let road users know about the closures ahead of work starting. Provision has been made so emergency vehicles can cross the bridge during the closures.
The Transport Agency apologises for any disruptions to road users and appreciates their patience while this work is being done. For the latest information on this work go to www.highwayinfo.govt.nz(external link) or phone 0800 44 44 49. Also check out our Facebook page(external link)
