The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that the State Highway 1 Greenwood St/Killarney Rd intersection in Hamilton city will be closed each week night from 7pm to 6am for three weeks between 22 June and 10 July.
The closures will enable the NZTA to carry out the final stages of the intersection upgrade, which will improve its traffic capacity and provide better access for pedestrians and cyclists.
NZTA Regional Director Harry Wilson says the upgraded Greenwood St/Killarney Rd intersection should be fully operational by mid July.
Along with replacing the roundabout with traffic signals, the upgraded intersection will include additional traffic lanes on all four legs of the intersection and improved pedestrian/cyclist facilities. A new turning bay is also being provided on Killarney Road for traffic turning right (from Dinsdale) into Higgins Road, and a new give way sign and clear zone is being provided to improve access into and out of Killarney Lane.
Clearly signposted detours will be in place during the week night closures and motorists are asked to follow the signs.
These night works are weather dependant and may be deferred if the weather is unsuitable.
The NZTA apologises for any inconvenience caused.
