The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that works to improve safety on State Highway 1 just north of the Ngaruawahia Bridge is scheduled to begin at the end of April and a detour will be in place for southbound traffic.
The works involve the resealing of SH1 between the Ngaruawahia Bridge and River Road, improvements to the SH1 intersections with Old Taupiri Road and River Road, and the upgrading of the bus bay and pedestrian refuge near Old Taupiri Road.
During the works, a clearly signposted detour will be in place for southbound traffic via River Road and the Horotiu Bridge. Travel delays of approximately 10 minutes are expected. Speed restrictions will also be in place for northbound traffic travelling through the work area.
The NZTA Waikato State Highway Manager Kaye Clark says, weather permitting, works will start on Monday 26 April and will take approximately four days to complete.
Mrs Clark thanks motorists for their patience during these works.
These works are weather dependant and may be delayed if adverse weather prevents the works being carried out as programmed.
