The NZ Transport Agency has awarded a new seven year maintenance contract for its West Coast highway network to a partnership led by Fulton Hogan.
The $89.9 million contract is designed to deliver greater efficiencies in terms of operation and costs.
“Transport Agency Highway Manager Colin Knaggs says this a new and exciting way forward in managing our highway network that delivers value for money and greater efficiencies. Fulton Hogan has formed a partnership with incumbent professional engineering services provider Opus and local contracting companies Westreef and Westroads, and MBD Contracting to deliver this contract.”
In the past, there have been a number of contracts delivering highway maintenance works. With just one contract for the whole area, the Transport Agency is expecting savings across the board. Another important point of difference with this contract, is its performance-based, with the contractor’s performance being assessed annually.
Mr Knaggs says Fulton Hogan has strong links with the region and have been working on the West Coast highway network for the last decade, carrying out the majority of the resealing work and traffic management services. The company has an established network of depots throughout the area and a good working knowledge of the region.”
The new contract will take effect from 1 September 2015.
Mr Knaggs thanked all contractors who in recent years have contributed to the maintenance and management of the West Coast state highway network.
