The NZ Transport Agency is currently negotiating a new maintenance contract for the Southland state highway network with a partnership led by SouthRoads Ltd.
SouthRoads is the preferred supplier for the new $64.0 million contract which will run over seven years and is designed to deliver greater efficiencies in terms of operation and costs, says the Transport Agency’s Southern Business Manager (acting) Ian Duncan.
“The Network Outcomes Contracts are a new way of doing business. In the past, there have been a number of contracts delivering the maintenance works on the network.
“With one contract for the whole area, for all of Southland except the Milford Road (SH94 Te Anau to Milford), the Transport Agency is expecting savings across the board,” he says.
SouthRoads is a local Southland company that has evolved and developed over the last 20 years. They have formed a partnership with professional engineering services provider MWH and contracting companies Downer NZ Ltd, McDonough Contracting Ltd and Carran Scott Contracting to deliver the new contract.
“The new contract is currently being negotiated with the preferred supplier and is expected to be awarded next month.”
Mr Duncan says the contract will be performance-based, with the focus being on the delivery of good quality outcomes for the network and all road users.
“SouthRoads have been working on the Northern Southland state highway network for the last seven years, undertaking the general maintenance and keeping roads operating safely over winter. The company has established depots throughout the area and have a good working knowledge of the region.”
The new contract will take effect on 1 March 2016.
Mr Duncan thanked all the consultants and contractors who in recent years have contributed to the maintenance and management of the Southland network.
