Work starts on Monday, 20 October, on new bus stop facilities and a safe pedestrian crossing point on State highway 6A Frankton Road near Suburb Street and the Copthorne Lakeview Hotel.
This joint project costing an estimated $150,000, involves the Transport Agency, the Copthorne Hotel and Queenstown Lakes District Council, along with NZSki and Connectabus.
Transport Agency Central Otago highway network manager John Jarvis, says the work involves providing two bus stops. Another important part of the job is creating a safe pedestrian crossing point at this site, as a lot bus users cross the road here, especially during the ski season.
Queenstown Lakes District Deputy Mayor Lyal Cocks said the Council was pleased to see the work proceed. The bustops and crossing point were a welcome road safety measure for residents and visitors alike.
Mr Jarvis said the work will be carried out to minimise disruptions for road users on what is a busy section of highway, however we apologise for any minor delays associated with this work.
The new bus stop facilities, should be ready by Christmas.
