The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) wishes to advise the temporary Bailey bridge on State Highway 21 (Airport Road) at Narrows Bridge will be removed on Friday 29 April, weather permitting.
NZTA Waikato State Highways manager Kaye Clark says the highway will be closed between the hours of 9:30 am and 5:00 pm.
The bridge was to be lifted out this week but due to technical difficulties with the crane, the work could not be completed as planned.
However, Mrs Clark says the Narrows Bridge was able to be reinstated to two-way traffic so the Bailey bridge is no longer in use and is ready to be taken out.
During Friday's closure, people travelling to Hamilton International Airport on SH21 (Airport Road) from the Tamahere side of the city are advised to allow approximately 30 additional minutes for their journey.
The recommended route to and from the airport during the removal of the Bailey bridge, is via SH3 (Ohaupo Road). Detours signs will be in place.
"We appreciate the significant inconvenience a major road closure like this causes for motorists travelling this route, and for people who live in this area," says Mrs Clark.
"We thank motorists for their continued patience and understanding."
