The NZ Transport Agency is urging motorists to keep an eye on the weather and take extra care travelling this weekend, with extreme winds, rain and snow expected in several parts of the country.
Driving conditions may be treacherous with heavy rain expected about the Southern Alps and west of the South Island and about Mt Taranaki and the Tararua ranges in the North Island tomorrow.
With gale force winds currently buffeting the south expected to spread north to Wellington and Wairarapa late tonight, the agency is also advising truckies, motorcyclists and people driving high-sided vehicles or towing trailers or caravans to take extra care.
Motorists should check conditions before travelling and avoid unnecessary travel if conditions deteriorate.
