The NZ Transport Agency has extended the time motorists using the Northern Gateway Toll Road have to pay their tolls from three to five days.
The change is permanent for motorists who pay for their casual trips either online or by phone, and applies immediately as people prepare for the upcoming Labour Weekend break.
“We have decided to provide our customers with the longer five day payment period to cater for situations like long holiday weekends when people may not have easy access to the internet or phone while they’re away,” NZTA Regional Director for Auckland and Northland Wayne McDonald said.
The change means that for long weekends, people can use the toll road on a Friday and pay online or by phone the following Tuesday without incurring any additional fees.
“We would encourage casual users to either go online at www.tollroad.govt.nz, or use our free phone, 0800 40 20 20, to pay their tolls before or after their trip so that they can get the maximum benefit of the road without having to stop,” Mr McDonald added.
A notice requesting the toll, plus an additional $2.20 to cover administration costs, will be sent to the registered vehicle owner is a toll is not paid with the five days.
