NZTA advises drivers to expect minor delays if travelling through the Karangahake Gorge near Waihi.
Drivers are advised to expect minor delays if travelling through the Karangahake Gorge south-west of Waihi as works are being undertaken this week to repair the shoulder of the highway.
NZ Transport Agency Operations Manager, Karen Boyt says a retaining wall is being constructed along the shoulder of State Highway 2 at Waikino (through the Karangahake Gorge) which was damaged during recent storm events.
The work which started today is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
Manual traffic management is in place with a temporary speed restriction, this operation will remain throughout the works on a 24 hour basis until the repairs are complete.
“Minor delays can be expected, traffic controllers will be monitoring delays particularly around peak traffic times to ensure everything continues to run smoothly,” says Ms Boyt.
