The NZ Transport Agency will begin maintenance work on the Hardies Bridge over Matakohe River on State Highway 12 this weekend.
Work to repair a number of the bridge’s deck planks is scheduled to start on Sunday 25 September.
The work will be carried out overnight from 6pm until 5am to reduce the impact on road users and is expected to take three nights, however all the time frames are dependent on good weather.
Stop go operators will be working on both ends of the bridge and the work is expected to cause minimal delays at most times with occasional periods when there may be delays of up to ten minutes.
Motorists are asked to slow down to keep conditions safe for other traffic waiting to cross and road workers.
Meanwhile the Transport Agency is continuing work on detailed design plans for realigning State Highway 12 including the two one-lane bridges at Matakohe.
Construction is planned to begin late next year (2017) on work which will remove the tight corners and build new two-lane bridges to create a safer and more direction route.
The upgrade is part of the Transport Agency’s work for the Government to improve Northland’s State Highway network to help stimulate Northland’s economic growth and improve the regions connections with the rest of the country.
