The Saddle Road between Woodville and Ashhurst has now reopened.
Fallen trees, debris and slips, caused by the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle, are keeping roading contractors around the region busy.

“Please avoid all unnecessary travel at the moment and if you do have to drive in the areas which remain open, drive to the conditions, says Waka Kotahi’s System Manager for Manawatū-Whanganu Rob Service.
“Roading crews are closely monitoring sites around the region to ensure we can reopen those roads as soon as possible.
“Closures are never helpful and we know this cyclone has caused disruption for thousands of people across the region.
“We’re doing everything we can to safely and quickly reopen our network.
“The current disruption to our network also means some planned roadworks will be postponed including night time works scheduled for SH54 next week and scheduled works next week on the Saddle have been cancelled. A further date will be advised.”
