The NZ Transport Agency is advising that adverse weather conditions for maintenance work on the Manawatū Gorge means The Big Slip Lookout Track will remain closed until the end of the year.
The work involves clearing debris that has accumulated over time on the terraced sections of the 2011 slip repairs.
The slip site is near the main Manawatū Gorge Track, which remains open to walkers. However the track from the Whatonga sculpture to the ‘Big Slip’ Lookout will remain closed until December 2017.
Further work on clearing the debris is planned to re-start in October and should be complete by the end of December, weather permitting. Site working hours will be between 6am and 6pm.
The Department of Conservation is reminding people who are walking on the Manawatū Gorge Track to stay safe by adhering to warning signs and barriers in the area.
