The NZ Transport Agency will be undertaking major asphalt resurfacing works on the south side of State Highway 3, Mt Messenger from Monday 26 February.
Various sites over approximately 2.5 kilometres of State Highway 3 on Mt Messenger will have the existing road surface removed and a new asphalt surface applied.
Repairs will take at least seven working days and will be carried out between 7.30am and 7.30pm. The improvements are subject to suitable weather conditions.
The Transport Agency’s System Manager, Ross I’Anson, says the work on Mt Messenger is vital to keep the road in good condition.
“Please be aware there will be long delays, possibly of up to an hour for the duration of the project. This is because of the amount of time it takes us to prepare this higher quality seal.
“We’d like to suggest people plan ahead, consider the delay and add the time required on to their trip for the duration of these works or arrange alternative routes or times to travel,” Mr I’Anson says.
The alternative routes could include State Highway 43.
“We’d like to apologise in advance for the significant delays the work will cause but it is necessary. This seal will result in a better road surface and less maintenance delays for everybody who uses it,” Mr I’Anson says.
