The NZ Transport Agency advises that there will be significant delays for drivers heading north on State Highway 1 [SH1] between Pokeno and Bombay when northbound lanes are closed for essential maintenance work on the nights of Monday 10 May and Tuesday 11 May.
The NZTA’s State Highways Manager for Auckland, Tommy Parker, says drivers heading north should plan their journeys and allow extra time.
“Detours will be in place which could add up to 40 minutes on to a journey,” says Mr Parker. “The detours will be on unfamiliar rural roads at night, and people need to drive with care and patience”
Mr Parker says the NZTA aims to keep disruption to travellers to a minimum, and the closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am when traffic volumes are lighter.
The northbound lanes between the Pokeno off ramp and Razorback Road will be closed. The closure includes the Pokeno northbound on-ramp, SH1– 2 northbound off-ramp, and SH2 – 1 northbound on-ramp. Detour routes will be in place via Tuakau in Franklin, and northbound traffic will be diverted from SH1 at Pokeno.
The maintenance improvements do not affect the southbound lanes of SH1.
“Line marking is the final stage in the resurfacing process which was completed a few weeks ago. It is an important part of our improvements to ensure the motorway is kept in a good and safe condition for everyone using it,” Mr Parker says.
All work is weather dependant. If it can not be carried out on the dates specified above, it will be carried out on the next available evening.
