Major road works on SH1 South of Bombay

The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists there will be significant delays on State Highway 1 [SH1] between Bombay and Pokeno, starting the evening of Sunday 21 March, because of necessary maintenance.

Major resurfacing work is taking place on both the north and southbound lanes next week.

The NZTA’s State Highways Manager for Auckland, Tommy Parker, said the NZTA is trying to keep disruption to travellers to a minimum, and is carrying out the work at night between 8pm and 6am when traffic volumes are lighter.

“Resurfacing is an important part of our maintenance programme to ensure the motorway is kept in a good and safe condition for everyone using it,” Mr Parker said.

Mr Parker said it was inevitable that there would be delays and asked for drivers to be patient while the work was being done to make their journeys on a busy section of SH1 smoother.

“The detours could add up to 40 minutes on to a journey, and people should allow plenty of extra time when they are planning to travel and to drive with care,” Mr Parker added.

Detour routes will be in place via Tuakau, in Franklin.  Northbound traffic will be diverted from SH1 at Pokeno, and southbound travellers diverted from Bombay.

The southbound lanes of SH1 between the Bombay off ramp and State Highway 2 on ramp are scheduled to be closed on Sunday 21 March and Monday 22 March.  This includes the closure of the Bombay southbound on ramp, Beaver Road on and off ramps, Nikau Road on and off ramps and Razorback Road southbound off ramp.

The northbound lanes between the Pokeno off ramp and Razorback Road on ramp are scheduled to be closed on Wednesday 24 March.  This includes the closure of Pokeno northbound on ramp and the SH1 – 2 off ramp.

All work is weather dependant. If it can not be carried out on the date specified above, it will be done on the next available evening.
