The Transport Agency says from next Wednesday (25 February) motorists using the Dunedin southern motorway between the Green Island on-ramp and Fairfield off-ramp, should allow a few minutes extra travel time, while resurfacing is carried out in this area.
Four separate sites are being resurfaced where the existing road material will be milled out and a new asphalt surface laid. Weather permitting the work is expected to take about two weeks to complete.
One traffic lane will be operating at work sites at all times with a 50km/h temporary speed restriction in place. Drivers are asked to keep their speeds down and take extra care when travelling through these sites, as they are likely to encounter uneven road surfaces.
To minimise disruptions for motorists, no work is being carried out at peak travel times from 7am to 9am and again from 4pm to 6pm.
The work costing $277,000, covers about 3km of traffic lanes. When completed, the new surface will reduce maintenance costs on this section of motorway and lower traffic noise.
