Queenstown Lakes District road users who drive or ride on the main road between Queenstown and Frankton will notice some road resurfacing activities starting mid-October and running through to early-December.
From Sunday night, 14 October, work starts on State Highway 6A between Frankton Road and Stanley Street. To minimise disruptions, it will be happening overnight from 8 pm to 6 am, Sunday to Thursday nights.
Aspiring Highways® is doing the road resurfacing on behalf of the NZ Transport Agency.
“People using this section of highway may experience minor delays,” says Mark Stewart, NZ Transport Agency Maintenance Contract Manager. “The majority of the works will be between the BP roundabout in Frankton and the Perkins Road intersection. People who travel this route at night and overnight should allow extra time for their journey.
“The work includes removing traffic islands and kerbing, road repairs and resurfacing. Once each section has been resurfaced road markings will be reapplied. For their own safety and that of the road works team, we ask that people travel through the work sites at the temporary speed limits.”
Night roadworks can be inconvenient for residents living nearby and some people may hear machinery noise, Mr Stewart says. However this will be for a limited time as the work crews move along Frankton Road. “The major benefit of doing this job at night when traffic is lighter, is that it can be completed more efficiently and with significantly less disruption overall.”
The Transport Agency thanks everyone for their patience and for taking care while this important maintenance work is completed.
